Importance of Alert and Obsolescence Management on Space Projects

  • Posted by Manuel Sánchez Ruiz
  • On February 25, 2022

The early identification of parts affected by an alert is important to avoid the use of that part in the design if an alternative is available. In the case the part has already been procured, it is important to know about the alert to see which solutions are available or the specific impact of the alert on our application.

What is a PoL converter and when should I use it

The use of EEE parts in Space missions involves several considerations that are not usual or critical in other industrial fields. Some typical examples of this are outgassing and radiation characteristics. However, another critical aspect that is not always considered is physical space. In Space applications

New issue of ESCC 5000 specification

The manufacture and testing of EEE parts designed for the Space market are complex procedures that strict specification systems have ruled for years. These specifications depend on various factors such us, country of origin of the parts (USA, European, Japan…), use the parts were designed for (Space, Military) and the component’s family (resistors, capacitors, inductors, microcircuits…).

A comparison between Red Plague screening methods

  • Posted by Manuel Sánchez Ruiz
  • On February 1, 2021

Red Plague is problematic corrosion appearing on silver-plated copper conductors. An electromechanical reaction is induced between copper core and silver plating of the conductor (by means of moisture and oxygen present in the silver-copper interface). Wire affected by Red Plague is mechanically compromised, increasing the failure risk linked to severe vibration and shock conditions on space flight.

Radiation Effects on EEPROM Memories

  • Posted by Manuel Sánchez Ruiz
  • On November 11, 2020
  • 0
EEPROM devices are especially critical in the design since they are used to upload the instruction to the microprocessors and other configurable devices (boot code of these parts); this is, as configuration memories. Also, they are used to store debugging information, which is key to depurate errors in configurable devices. Any modification of its content because of a bit error (1 to 0 or 0 to 1) due to radiation causes could lead to major consequences.

Detail/Procurement Specification Vs Manufacturer Datasheets.

the datasheet is not always under strict configuration control, and the information included can be changed without notice or even be outdated. This is, the datasheet is always under manufacturer control. This also implies that some parameter information that may be critical for a specific customer application may not be shown in the datasheet if the manufacturer does not consider it typically important. Furthermore, it may happen that this parameter has not even been measured ever.
