The power dissipated by a capacitor is a function of ripple current and equivalent series resistance, being one of the key parameters to consider when selecting a capacitor for a specific application
Introduction to Film Resistors
Film resistors are built either on cylindrical rods or on planar substrates. Usually, the material in the rods and substrates is ceramic in the state of aluminum oxide (alumina), but glass may occur. Hollow cores exist but are more and more abandoned when sizes are becoming smaller. This design suffers also from drawbacks: the construction is more fragile and the heat dissipation is poorer than that of a solid core.
A supercapacitor (SC) is an energy storage device with high energy density, low self-discharge rate and relatively long life-time. Time of life is influenced by the operating temperature, applied voltage as well as the charge/discharge current
Inductance L
Not only magnetic materials possess a magnetic field, but every current carrying conductor also creates a magnetic field itself.
Energy can be temporarily stored in the magnetic field. This effect is technically exploited in coils, consisting of one or more wire windings. The synonymous term “inductor” has become established.
A practical capacitor is a non-ideal component. Its circuit model contains series inductance (ESL) and series resistance (ESR). Although equivalent series resistance is often shown in circuit models as a constant value, it varies depending on operating conditions. ESR is resistance from a combination of energy loss mechanisms under specific operating conditions.
The use of new packages on space market has come hand in hand with the introduction of commercial of the shelf (COTS) parts in the business and even more with the New Space needs.
Current-compensated chokes can be manufactured with different ferrite geometries; toroidal ring core and ribbed core are the best known. Different core materials enable their use in various frequency ranges. A very well-known component, but one not designed as a common mode choke, is the snap ferrite or the split ferrite sleeve.
The effect of current-compensated chokes on coupled interference is used for data and signal lines. They are often the only option to avoid the interference suppression component affecting the useful signal
Here are 10 resistor lines introduced this year that deliver high reliability, high stability, or high temperature performance for a range of applications that require more robust performance.
