R2COTS experience for the selection and the procurement of COTS

ABSTRACT

Optimizing costs for New Space programs are generally related to the massive use of COTS components in the electrical designs. However, the EEE requirements of the project may not allow using pure COTS without any additional justification /& qualification.

The exchanges with the manufacturers, especially the access to the information, the relevancy of the qualification and reliability reports, and the traceability issues are the key points for successful handling of Reliability and Radiation topics.

We will present several methods in order to optimize testing and therefore save costs in TID (Total Ionizing Dose) and SEE (Single Event Effect), and thus, be able to offer suitable and reliable components for the New Space market.

R2COTS solution addresses the main axes to watch out for when procuring and qualifying COTS components and offers the best trade-off between EEE requirements and the new space needs.”
